Words from April, deciphered, transcribed and uploaded by husband Zak

April is very limited in the amount of "data" she can send from her remote location.  I will be posting her words, along with images taken under NMFS Permit No. 16632-00. Stay tuned for news of Aprils adventures.

Pearl & Hermes Atoll.  Southeast Island…  ‘Middle’ of the Pacific.

Find myself in the middle of the Pacific asking what the value of saving an endemic, endangered species is? Perhaps much broader than that, the value of life as a whole; loaded questions to be sure. No right or wrong answers, swayed entirely by personal perspective… Despite an inherent belief that life is intrinsically important and valuable, I am unable to express a clear and definitive answer to my query before spinning down that proverbial rabbit hole. The purpose. The why. The how.

Out of the studio and into the unknown, becoming a working part of an effort much larger than myself an individual deed or a single purpose. Learning how to look, see and understand the world from a wholly new perspective to contemplate those elusive aspects of existence, full of meaning but without definitive explanation. Viewing life through a scientific lens makes me appreciate the diversity of human consciousness as I have never considered before. Though it may take some time for my eyes to adjust, I'm starting to look at the world differently.

And so I find myself in the middle of the Pacific in search of clues to the answer of my question.

From a tiny piece of earth
In the middle of the ocean
Where one vibrant blue chases after another
And life is so full.
And death is so present.
