Into the Surface : Bellevue Art Museum : 2010
'Into The Surface' is a mural glass engraving that spans 14' wide and varies in height from 3' to 4.5'. It is comprised of 105, 12" x 6" glass panels and installed on a wood and steal armature. The form was inspired by the billboard format and installed stands at 7'.
The engraving illustrates a fractured urban landscape. Seven figures occupy the scene representing the individual in an overflowing urban environment. Layers of reflected imagery imply both a literal and metaphorical link between person and place. The complex imagery challenges the viewer to look closer and think deeper into the surface of their initial perceptions.
Video and audio elements accompany the engraving.
