Wichita Art Museum : Cameo Glass in Context : June 9 - September 9 : 2018
The Wichita Art Museum is organizing a dynamic contemporary exhibition, Charlotte Potter and April Surgent: Cameo Glass in Context, for the summer of 2018. This national loan exhibition will showcase two exceptional young artists who use the traditional technique of cameo-carved glass to address contemporary issues.
Cameo glass was first invented in ancient Rome and then virtually disappeared until its revival in European Art Nouveau and Art Deco glass in the decades around 1900. Charlotte Potter and April Surgent: Cameo Glass in Context will present a wide selection of the work of two artists along with examples of historical precedents. The exhibition is guest curated by Vicki Halper, a former curator at the Seattle Art Museum who has deep expertise in craft and glass art

Research : December 2017 - March 2018
From the beginning of December 2017 to the end of March 2018, I will be working as a Point Blue winter research assistant from the Farallon Islands National Wildlife Refuge. The primary focus of the Point Blue winter research crew is population assessment of the Northern elephant seal population who breed and pup on the islands. Other survey work includes: California sea lions, Steller sea lions, Northern fur seal, cetaceans, shorebirds, seabirds, land birds (including the burrowing owl), crickets and salamanders. The surveys we conduct will build on 50 years of conservation research science and the findings are used to build and improve conservation efforts.
